Brahmadev Anand Paswan was born on 31 December 1949 (31/12/1949) in Mokama (Charadih), under the Patna district of Bihar, India. He belongs to the Paswan (Dusadh) community of Bihar. His parents are Late Vilaso Devi (mother) and Late Ramji Paswan (father), and his grandparents were Late Soudagar Paswan and Smt. Sibiya Devi.

He completed his graduation in science (B.Sc.) from the A.N.S. College, Patna (Magadh University). His records list his profession as politician and social worker with a special interest in serving society and culture.

Political Career

1993 – 1994
Rajya Sabha Member, Bihar (Janata Dal)

Paswan entered national politics in the early 1990s. He was notably known for his oratory and for a poem titled the Lalu Chalisa — a verse in praise of then-Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav — which drew wide attention in political circles. Impressed by Paswan's grassroots connect and literary talent, Lalu Prasad Yadav arranged his nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

He was elected to the Rajya Sabha on 28 May 1993 in a by-election to fill the seat vacated by the death of the former Bihar Chief Minister Shri Bindeshwari Dubey. He served as a Member of Parliament from 1 June 1993 to 2 April 1994.

During his tenure, on 13 August 1993, Paswan raised a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha calling for the display of Emperor Ashoka's portrait in the Ashoka Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan — a significant symbolic step for Dalit representation.
